La Hwy 14

My notes on La.14:

La.14 is the ticket for seeing the most southern dry road running east/west in southwest La. It passes through small towns with New Iberia and Abbeville being the largest. It may be a little straight, but never uninteresting. I love it like I love La.82, its swamp sister to the south. Make that loop in one day and write home about it.It will be a long letter. It offers everything, good scenery, good food, good road surfaces and side trips, like to the Lacassane WMA where there are exhibits and a driving tour. Kaplan has a fine museum. Port Arthur. Duck hunting is king in Gueydan when the season rolls around. Guides and hunting "camps" are available. When you reach LA 27, dive south and visit the Creole Nature Trail Visitor's Center.

From the west, LA 14 begins at a junction with U.S. Route 90 in Lake Charles and heads due south, intersecting Interstate 210 before leaving the city limits. LA 14 then turns due east after intersecting LA 27. LA 14 intersects LA 26 in Lake Arthur, LA 91 in Gueydan, LA 13 and LA 35 in Kaplan, and U.S. Route 167 and LA 82 north of Abbeville. Louisiana Highway 14 Bypass runs through downtown Abbeville while the original highway runs just north of the city limits. The two highways split west of the city limits and rejoin just east of the city limits. LA 14 then passes through Erath and Delcambre before entering Iberia Parish. There, LA 14 turns to the northeast and intersects with U.S. Route 90 outside of New Iberia. LA 14 then ends in downtown New Iberia at the intersection of LA 14 and Louisiana Highway
