Palmetto Island State Park

There will not be anymore writing past this introduction.  The park is located south of Abbeville near a place called Mouton Cove. It is on  the Vermilion Bayou. Its existence has always been tentative. Hurricane Rita required its rebuild before it could be opened. There have been other problems. It was finally opened in 2010. It is gorgeous. It and Lake Fausse Pointe truly let the visitor experience a taste of Palmetto Louisiana.

The weather was a heavy cloud covered warm and wet but not overly humid which framed the park perfectly.  For one who has been around these beautiful greens all of his life, I found the  place striking and plans to return are already in the making.  First Sunday of each month a free guided canoe tour is given. Canoes rent for 5 bucks an hour or 20 bucks all day, your guide is covered in the 2 buck a person park entrance fee.  62 yrs old or older, no entrance fee.
