Wild Lafayette / Vermilionville

Possibly this is the way the south shore of Bayou Vermilion looked in the beginning of the 20th Century?
This is a small sliver of land just off Surrey St,. next to the Vermilion River  Bridge,  that has been set aside to remain "wild"  The hike is less than 1/2 mile but it does go up and down a little and there is mud after a rain.
Yes Indy, there are snakes.
(so I had my granddaughter lead)
This may have been the type of terrain the Battle of Vermilionville  was fought.  (Civil War, 1864)
But, probably not since I'm finding that it took place south of Broussard near where Alberson's is.
